What's the difference between voile and muslin curtain fabric?
Both are light, sheer fabrics, but voile is the lighter of the two with a more open weave, while muslin has a little more body and is slightly wider (3.30m versus 3m for voile). The two combine well together.
Does voile block out light?
No. Voile is a translucent fabric that softly filters light rather than blocking it. For a fully darkened room, pair it with a blackout fabric — voile by day, blackout closed at night is a common combination.
How much voile fabric do I need for curtains?
For a traditional gathered heading, allow 2 to 2.5 times the width of your track or pole. For a wave heading, follow the tape manufacturer's guidance — usually around 2x. Always add 15–20cm to the drop for hems and headings.
